Great Lakes Oatmeal Stout Cold Process Soap

Pour 24 oz. (2 bottles) of beer into a metal pan. Bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer. Continue to simmer for 20 minutes to remove the alcohol. After 20 minutes, remove from heat source and weigh 12.95 oz. into the polypropylene pitcher. Place pitcher in the refrigerator or freezer to cool completely or bring to a slushy consistency.

Using a food processor, grind oats to the desired consistency and set aside for later.

When the beer is completely cool, slowly pour the lye into the beer. Carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.

Add all the oils and butters to measuring cup and melt in the microwave. Set aside.

When both the lye mixture and the oils are 90ºF or below, add sodium lactate to the lye mixture.

Pour the lye mixture into the oils and stick blend until you reach a thin trace. Add the essential oils and ground oats and stir by hand. If needed, mix with stick blender until you reach a thin-medium trace.

Pour batter into the soap molds. As you fill the molds, tap them on the counter to release any air bubbles and make sure the details on the molds are filled with soap.

Allow the soap to set until it is firm enough to unmold (24 hours or longer). If you have trouble unmolding, place the molds in the freezer for 20 minutes and then try again. Let soap cure 4-6 weeks.

Package and label accordingly.
